7 TIPS FOR SAT EXAM PREPARATION

With SAT 2023 right around the corner, students must be gearing up and doing all they can to prepare for SAT Exam Preparation and ace the exam. Some students might have joined a coaching institute or enrolled in a class online; some might be going for personal mentorship from experts or those who gave the test before, while the rest of the aspirants might be preparing independently.

Clearing the SAT and scoring a score of 1200 to be eligible for most international schools and scholarships isn’t that easy. But with planned preparation, the right strategy, and a few valuable tips, it becomes a doable task.

DIGITAL SAT 2023:

2023 SAT oversees a change in its pattern. The exam time has been cut down from three to two hours, and the exam will be entirely digital. The SAT Digital for international aspirants is going to be applicable in the Fall of 2023, and it is going to be employed worldwide in October 2023.

The US students can take the SAT Digital in March 2024. The exam will be available from April 12, 2023, and less than three months are remaining for the exam. One can choose and book their slot for the SAT dates from the available slots.

NEW SAT OVERVIEW:

The exam duration has gone down from 3 hours to 2. There are only two sections this time – The Reading & Writing section and The Math section.

i. The passages for the Reading section will be short and crisp, having one question per SAT Reading passage. The Math section will be compressed and less verbose.

NEW SAT OVERVIEW

ii. Each section will have two parts of questions. The level of questions in Part II will be in accordance with your performance in Part I. Say you got all or more than the average number of questions correct in Part I, then Part II will be a level higher.

If your performance in Part I was below average, the difficulty level in Part II will be either ‘Easy’ or ‘Moderate.’ Students also get more time to answer per question.

iii. The previous norm of the No-calculator Math section is discarded, and calculator use will be allowed for the entire Math section.

iv. There will also be an on-screen timer, a reference sheet, a flagger, a review option, highlighting, and other tools.

The evaluation will be more or less the same. The exam is not so far, and it is time now if you have not started your SAT Exam preparation yet. It is not impossible to clear the exam in the time left. All you need to do is set aside all distractions, make a schedule, and work all the best you can till D-day.

Here are 7 tips for SAT Exam preparation:

1. Plan for SAT Exam Preparation:

It is a well-known saying that if you’re failing to plan, then you’re planning to fail. Plan your study, exercise, and other daily activities accordingly. You can go for a customizable schedule available or make one on your own and stick to it. Make a note of which subjects to complete first and how much weightage is required for each subject.

Since there are only 2 sections, you can divide the time and energy on each subject as per your level of preparation. With not much time left until the exam day, the rule is simple. Make a plan and stick to it.

2. Take a Crash Course:

There are many free and paid SAT crash course options available on the internet. If you are feeling underconfident about your preparation and have doubts regarding the same and need someone to guide you, it is better to enroll in a crash course.

Crash courses are short, crisp, and to the point. They are affordable as well. They are designed in such a way that the most critical areas are focussed upon, so there is no time spent needlessly.

3. Symbiotic Study for your SAT Exam Preparation:

Group studies work wonders if done correctly. Find a group of like-minded, serious SAT aspirants and form a peer group. Share your resources and materials with each other. Discuss and study together whenever possible.

You can also get your queries and doubts cleared through discussion. Evaluate each other by giving frequent tests. You can hang out once or twice or grab a bite together to relax. But make sure the time spent together is worth it and not just for fun.

4. Understand the new Pattern:

There are quite a significant number of changes to the new Digital SAT besides being entirely digital. If you are a first-timer with zero knowledge of SAT or, though familiar but unaware of the new pattern, spend some time to understand and get familiarized with the changes to avoid a D-day bouncer.

Pivot your SAT Exam preparation around the new pattern. If you are unfamiliar with computer usage, practice using a computer for at least 10-20 minutes a day to get yourself accustomed to the digital environment.

5. Analyse PYQS and Give Mock Tests:

Previous Year Questions give an insight into what you, as an aspirant, can expect from the test and what the test expects from you. While mock tests help you analyse the areas you are good at and the areas you need to work upon. Download at least 5 years of PYQs and attempt them to test your level.

Some suggest doing this before starting your SAT Exam preparation so you can analyze things. Analysis requires a certain amount of basic knowledge. But in the beginning, you know nothing, so it is difficult to analyze. It is better to attempt the PYQs after you get a basic understanding of the subjects. They can also work like mock tests if you attempt them after your preparation is done.

Many free and paid mock tests are available online. You can give them at a frequency you are comfortable with. Start with a minimum number per day, and you can increase the number as D-day draws near.

6. Work on Weak Areas for SAT Exam Preparation:

Once you are done with understanding the pattern, memorize the syllabus entirely. After you are at least halfway through your preparation, you will then get an idea of the areas where you are strong or weak.

If Reading & Writing is your strength, but Math intimidates you, give more time and effort to Math while not neglecting the former and vice versa. For any test, it is essential to realize your areas of strength and weakness to have a better understanding of your potential and perform meticulously.

7. Health is a Priority:

Last but never least, health is a priority, no matter what. If your health is good, you can win the world. If your health is an issue, all other areas of your life will be at risk. The health of your four dimensions – Body, Mind, Heart, and Soul, play a significant role in your success.

Even if one is faltering, the others get affected too. Exercise regularly and eat nutritious food to stay physically fit. Meditate or read motivational accounts, speak your mind, and feed positive thoughts to remain mentally healthy.

Spend time with your loved ones, and focus on the bright side of things to be emotionally mature and balanced. Feed your soul positivity, faith, etc. if you follow a particular religion, recharge your soul by practicing good worship and prayers regularly. And remember that if health is lost, so will everything.
