AS & A Level Languages
AS and A-level languages (other than the English language) is a perfect course to increase professional possibilities or to expand on language skills acquired at the IGCSE and O levels. The course has five languages options as mentioned below:
- Afrikaans: 8679, 9679
- French: 8682, 9716
- German: 8683, 9717
- Portuguese: 8684, 9718
- Spanish: 8665, 8673, 8685, 9719
By taking this course, the proper usage of the language in a range of contexts will become clear to learners. They will be required to manipulate texts and other primary sources while extracting data to complete particular tasks. Learners can anticipate improving their language skills via their studies, including fluency, accuracy, and confidence.

Structure of AS/A Level Languages
The AS and A-level Languages are divided into four components. The descriptions of each component are mentioned below:
Component 1: Speaking Test
It is a 100-mark paper that includes three sections:
- Section 1: Presentation – 20 Marks
- Section 2: Topic Conversation – 40 Marks
- Section 3: General Conversation – 40 Marks
Component 2: Reading & Writing
It is a 70-mark paper in which two passages are assigned in the target language that covers connected topics. Candidates reply to tasks requiring summaries or comparisons of the themes.
Component 3: Essay
For each year of the examination, a list of five topics is published for this paper. Candidates must select one question and respond with a 250–400-word essay. Out of the 40 possible points, 24 pertain to language quality and 16 to content.
